They should both follow the convention of not being a pointer on the
internal type. This required adding a conversion function between
`int64` and `*int64`.
A side effect is this removes a warning in the generated code for the
apps API group.
This changes the Kubelet configuration flag precedence order so that
flags take precedence over config from files/ConfigMaps.
See #56171 for rationale.
Note: Feature gates accumulate with the following
precedence (greater number overrides lesser number):
1. file-based config
2. dynamic cofig
3. flag-based config

Removal of KubeletConfigFile feature gate: Step 1
This feature gate was redundant with the `--config` flag, which already
enables/disables loading Kubelet config from a file.
Since the gate guarded an alpha feature, removing it is not a violation
of our API guidelines.
Some stuff in `kubernetes/test-infra` currently sets the gate,
so removing will be a 3 step process:
1. This PR, which makes the gate a no-op.
2. Stop setting the gate in `kubernetes/test-infra`.
3. Completely remove the gate (this PR will get the release note).

Set pids limit at pod level
**What this PR does / why we need it**:
Add a new Alpha Feature to set a maximum number of pids per Pod.
This is to allow the use case where cluster administrators wish
to limit the pids consumed per pod (example when running a CI system).
By default, we do not set any maximum limit, If an administrator wants
to enable this, they should enable `SupportPodPidsLimit=true` in the
`--feature-gates=` parameter to kubelet and specify the limit using the
`--pod-max-pids` parameter.
The limit set is the total count of all processes running in all
containers in the pod.

Support for custom tls cipher suites in api server and kubelet
**What this PR does / why we need it**:
This pull request aims to solve the problem of users not able to set custom cipher suites in the api server.
Several users have requested this given that some default ciphers are vulnerable.
There is a discussion in #41038 of how to implement this. The options are:
- Setting a fixed list of ciphers, but users will have different requirements so a fixed list would be problematic.
- Letting the user set them by parameter, this requires adding a new parameter that could be pretty long with the list of all the ciphers.
I implemented the second option, if the ciphers are not passed by parameter, the Go default ones will be used (same behavior as now).
**Which issue this PR fixes**
fixes#41038
**Special notes for your reviewer**:
The ciphers in Go tls config are constants and the ones passed by parameters are a comma-separated list. I needed to create the `type CipherSuitesFlag` to support that conversion/mapping, because i couldn't find any way to do this type of reflection in Go.
If you think there is another way to implement this, let me know.
If you want to test it out, this is a ciphers combination i tested without the weak ones:
```
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256,TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256,TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256,TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256,TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256,TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384,TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384,TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_CHACHA20_POLY1305,TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_CHACHA20_POLY1305,TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA,TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA,TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256,TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384,TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA,TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA,TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA,TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
```
If this is merged i will implement the same for the Kubelet.

Explicit kubelet flags
The Kubelet was using the global flag set.
Libraries also often use the global flag set.
There are flags in the Kubelet's usage statement for which the Kubelet does not control registration.
This is bad, we must have full control of our command-line API.
This PR puts a stop to it.
I worked through the Kubelet's usage printout and tracked down the flags.
In the below list, flags with checkboxes are one of:
- explicitly **registered** in this PR
- thought about and outright **rejected**
- thought about and **registered-deprecated** for legacy reasons
For the others we need to figure out whether they should be **registered** or **rejected** or **registered-deprecated**.

```release-note
The Kubelet now explicitly registers all of its command-line flags with an internal flagset, which prevents flags from third party libraries from unintentionally leaking into the Kubelet's command-line API. Many unintentionally leaked flags are now marked deprecated, so that users have a chance to migrate away from them before they are removed. One previously leaked flag, --cloud-provider-gce-lb-src-cidrs, was entirely removed from the Kubelet's command-line API, because it is irrelevant to Kubelet operation.
```
Thanks to @liggitt for being surprised that we didn't already do this.
Thanks to @dashpole for realizing cadvisor flags were leaked after seeing #55863.
Thanks to @tallclair who recognized this problem a long time ago in #19432.
This explicitly registers Kubelet flags from libraries that were
registering flags globally, and stops parsing the global flag set.
In general, we should always be explicit about flags we register
and parse, so that we maintain control over our command-line API.

seccomp is an alpha feature and not feature gated
Move SeccompProfileRoot to KubeletFlags and document flag as alpha.
wrt https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/pull/53833#issuecomment-345396575, seccomp is an alpha feature, but this isn't clearly documented anywhere (the annotation just has the word "alpha" in it, and that's your signal that it's alpha).
Since seccomp was around before feature gates, it doesn't have one.
Thus SeccompProfileRoot should not be part of KubeletConfiguration, and this PR moves it to KubeletFlags, and amends the help text to note the alpha state of the feature.

Disable container disk metrics when using the CRI stats integration
Issue: https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/51798
As explained in the issue, runtimes which make use of the CRI Stats API still have the performance overhead of collecting those same stats through cAdvisor.
The CRI Stats API has metrics for CPU, Memory, and Disk. This PR significantly reduces the added overhead due to collecting these stats in both cAdvisor and in the runtime.
This PR disables container disk metrics, which are very expensive to collect.
This PR does not disable node-level disk stats, as the "Raw" container handler does not currently respect ignoring DiskUsageMetrics.
This PR factors out the logic for determining whether or not to use the CRI stats provider into a helper function, as cAdvisor is instantiated before it is passed to the kubelet as a dependency.

The first call to Set will clear the map before adding entries;
subsequent calls will simply append to the map.
This makes it possible to override default values with a command-line
option rather than appending to defaults,
while still allowing the distribution of key-value pairs across
multiple flag invocations.
For example: `--flag "a:hello" --flag "b:again" --flag "b:beautiful"
--flag "c:world"` results in `{"a": ["hello"], "b": ["again",
"beautiful"], "c": ["world"]}`
- Changes the following KubeletConfiguration fields from `string` to
`map[string]string`:
- `EvictionHard`
- `EvictionSoft`
- `EvictionSoftGracePeriod`
- `EvictionMinimumReclaim`
- Adds flag parsing shims to maintain Kubelet's public flags API, while
enabling structured input in the file API.
- Also removes `kubeletconfig.ConfigurationMap`, which was an ad-hoc flag
parsing shim living in the kubeletconfig API group, and replaces it
with the `MapStringString` shim introduced in this PR. Flag parsing
shims belong in a common place, not in the kubeletconfig API.
I manually audited these to ensure that this wouldn't cause errors
parsing the command line for syntax that would have previously been
error free (`kubeletconfig.ConfigurationMap` was unique in that it
allowed keys to be provided on the CLI without values. I believe this was
done in `flags.ConfigurationMap` to facilitate the `--node-labels` flag,
which rightfully accepts value-free keys, and that this shim was then
just copied to `kubeletconfig`). Fortunately, the affected fields
(`ExperimentalQOSReserved`, `SystemReserved`, and `KubeReserved`) expect
non-empty strings in the values of the map, and as a result passing the
empty string is already an error. Thus requiring keys shouldn't break

- Updates code and tests accordingly.
Regarding eviction operators, directionality is already implicit in the
signal type (for a given signal, the decision to evict will be made when
crossing the threshold from either above or below, never both). There is
no need to expose an operator, such as `<`, in the API. By changing
`EvictionHard` and `EvictionSoft` to `map[string]string`, this PR
simplifies the experience of working with these fields via the
`KubeletConfiguration` type. Again, flags stay the same.
Other things:
- There is another flag parsing shim, `flags.ConfigurationMap`, from the
shared flag utility. The `NodeLabels` field still uses
`flags.ConfigurationMap`. This PR moves the allocation of the
`map[string]string` for the `NodeLabels` field from
`AddKubeletConfigFlags` to the defaulter for the external
`KubeletConfiguration` type. Flags are layered on top of an internal
object that has undergone conversion from a defaulted external object,
which means that previously the mere registration of flags would have
overwritten any previously-defined defaults for `NodeLabels` (fortunately
there were none).

Move 'alpha' KubeletConfiguration fields that aren't feature-gated and self-registration fields to KubeletFlags
Some of these fields are marked "alpha" in help text. They cannot be in the KubeletConfiguration object unless they are feature gated or graduated from alpha.
Others relate to Kubelet self-registration, and given https://github.com/kubernetes/community/pull/911 I think its prudent to wait and see if these really should be in the KubeletConfiguration type.
For now we just leave them all as flags.

pkg/api: extract Scheme/Registry/Codecs into pkg/api/legacyscheme
This serves as
- a preparation for the pkg/api->pkg/apis/core move
- and makes the dependency to the scheme explicit when vizualizing
left depenncies.
The later helps with our our efforts to split up the monolithic repo
into self-contained sub-repos, e.g. for kubectl, controller-manager
and kube-apiserver in the future.
The client cert manager uses the most recent cert to request new
certificates. If that certificate is expired, it will be unable to
complete new CSR requests. This commit alters the manager to force
process exit if no further client cert rotation is possible, which
is expected to trigger a restart of the kubelet and either a
re-bootstrap from the bootstrap kubeconfig or a re-read of the
current disk state (assuming that some other agent is managing the
bootstrap configuration).
This prevents the Kubelet from wedging in a state where it cannot make
API calls.
Revert "Merge pull request #51857 from kubernetes/revert-51307-kc-type-refactor"
This reverts commit 9d27d92420, reversing
changes made to 2e69d4e625.
See original: #51307
We punted this from 1.8 so it could go through an API review. The point
of this PR is that we are trying to stabilize the kubeletconfig API so
that we can move it out of alpha, and unblock features like Dynamic
Kubelet Config, Kubelet loading its initial config from a file instead
of flags, kubeadm and other install tools having a versioned API to rely
on, etc.
We shouldn't rev the version without both removing all the deprecated
junk from the KubeletConfiguration struct, and without (at least
temporarily) removing all of the fields that have "Experimental" in
their names. It wouldn't make sense to lock in to deprecated fields.
"Experimental" fields can be audited on a 1-by-1 basis after this PR,
and if found to be stable (or sufficiently alpha-gated), can be restored
to the KubeletConfiguration without the "Experimental" prefix.
Command line flag API remains the same. This allows ComponentConfig
structures (e.g. KubeletConfiguration) to express the map structure
behind feature gates in a natural way when written as JSON or YAML.
For example:
KubeletConfiguration Before:
```
apiVersion: kubeletconfig/v1alpha1
kind: KubeletConfiguration
featureGates: "DynamicKubeletConfig=true,Accelerators=true"
```
KubeletConfiguration After:
```
apiVersion: kubeletconfig/v1alpha1
kind: KubeletConfiguration
featureGates:
DynamicKubeletConfig: true
Accelerators: true
```

**What this PR does / why we need it**:

As long as the kubelet continues to run cAdvisor, runtimes with native cAdvisor support may not want to run multiple monitoring agents to avoid performance regression in production. Deprecation warnings for auto detecting cloud providers
**What this PR does / why we need it**:
Adds deprecation warnings for auto detecting cloud providers. Fix issues for local storage allocatable feature
This PR fixes the following issues:
1. Use ResourceStorageScratch instead of ResourceStorage API to represent
local storage capacity
2. In eviction manager, use container manager instead of node provider
(kubelet) to retrieve the node capacity and reserved resources. Node
provider (kubelet) has a feature gate so that storagescratch information
may not be exposed if feature gate is not set. On the other hand,
container manager has all the capacity and allocatable resource
information.
This PR fixes issue #47809
Replaces use of --api-servers with --kubeconfig in Kubelet args across

2. In eviction manager, use container manager instead of node provider

This is used by integrators that want to perform partial overrides of
key interfaces. Refactors the run() method to fit the existing style and

Right now the kubelet creates a new csr object with the same key every

where a watch event is missed and the kubelet stalls.

bazel: stamp multiple packages by using x_defs instead of linkstamp in go_binary rules
**What this PR does / why we need it**: Fixes regression introduced sometime in the last few months that prevented bazel-built clusters from identifying version properly.
It does so by updating the bazelbuild/rules_go and kubernetes/repo-infra dependencies to support using stamp values in `go_binary` `x_defs`, and then changing our `go_binary` rules to use `x_defs` instead of `linkstamp`.
This whole charade is necessary because we need to stamp version information in multiple packages.
This pretty much only affects the bazel build, so it should be low risk.

Add local storage (scratch space) allocatable support
This PR adds the support for allocatable local storage (scratch space).
This feature is only for root file system which is shared by kubernetes

Rotate kubelet client certificate.
Changes the kubelet so it bootstraps off the cert/key specified in the
config file and uses those to request new cert/key pairs from the
Certificate Signing Request API, as well as rotating client certificates
when they approach expiration.
Default behavior is for client certificate rotation to be disabled. If enabled
using a command line flag, the kubelet exits each time the certificate is
rotated. I tried to use `GetCertificate` in [tls.Config](https://golang.org/pkg/crypto/tls/#Config) but it is only called
on the server side of connections. Then I tried `GetClientCertificate`,
but it is new in 1.8.

Certificate rotation for kubelet server certs.
Replaces the current kubelet server side self signed certs with certs signed by
the Certificate Request Signing API on the API server. Also renews expiring

Two Points:
1. With `--feature-gates=RotateKubeletServerCertificate=true` set, the kubelet will
request a certificate during the boot cycle and pause waiting for the request to
be satisfied.
2. In order to have the kubelet's certificate signing request auto approved,
`--insecure-experimental-approve-all-kubelet-csrs-for-group=` must be set on
the cluster controller manager. There is an improved mechanism for auto
approval [proposed](https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/45030).

Delete "hard-coded" default value in flags usage.
**What this PR does / why we need it**:
Some flags of kubernetes components have "hard-coded" default values in their usage info. In fact, [pflag pkg](https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/master/vendor/github.com/spf13/pflag/flag.go#L602-L608) has already added a string `(default value)` automatically in the usage info if the flag is initialized. Then we don't need to hard-code the default value in usage info. After this PR, if we want to update the default value of a flag, we only need to update the flag where it is initialized. `pflag` will update the usage info for us. This will avoid inconsistency.
For example:
Before
```
kubelet -h
...
--node-status-update-frequency duration Specifies how often kubelet posts node status to master. Note: be cautious when changing the constant, it must work with nodeMonitorGracePeriod in nodecontroller. Default: 10s (default 10s)
...
```
After
```
kubelet -h
...
--node-status-update-frequency duration Specifies how often kubelet posts node status to master. Note: be cautious when changing the constant, it must work with nodeMonitorGracePeriod in nodecontroller. (default 10s)
...
```

Kubelet flags are not necessarily appropriate for the KubeletConfiguration
object. For example, this PR also removes HostnameOverride and NodeIP
from KubeletConfiguration. This is a preleminary step to enabling Nodes
to share configurations, as part of the dynamic Kubelet configuration
feature (#29459). Fields that must be unique for each node inhibit
sharing, because their values, by definition, cannot be shared.

kubelet: change image-gc-high-threshold below docker dm.min_free_space
docker dm.min_free_space defaults to 10%, which "specifies the min free space percent in a thin pool require for new device creation to succeed....Whenever a new a thin pool device is created (during docker pull or during container creation), the Engine checks if the minimum free space is available. If sufficient space is unavailable, then device creation fails and any relevant docker operation fails." [1]
This setting is preventing the storage usage to cross the 90% limit. However, image GC is expected to kick in only beyond image-gc-high-threshold. The image-gc-high-threshold has a default value of 90%, and hence GC never triggers. If image-gc-high-threshold is set to a value lower than (100 - dm.min_free_space)%, GC triggers.
xref https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1408309
```release-note
changed kubelet default image-gc-high-threshold to 85% to resolve a conflict with default settings in docker that prevented image garbage collection from resolving low disk space situations when using devicemapper storage.
Eviction Manager Enforces Allocatable Thresholds
cc @kubernetes/sig-node-pr-reviews @kubernetes/sig-node-feature-requests @vishh
** Why is this a bug/regression**
Kubelet uses `oom_score_adj` to enforce QoS policies. But the `oom_score_adj` is based on overall memory requested, which means that a Burstable pod that requested a lot of memory can lead to OOM kills for Guaranteed pods, which violates QoS. Even worse, we have observed system daemons like kubelet or kube-proxy being killed by the OOM killer.
Without this PR, v1.6 will have node stability issues and regressions in an existing GA feature `out of Resource` handling.
